So I have been with Straight Talk for 1 year and my very first experience with them wasn't all that great because they must up the porting process of my phone number from Verizon. I was using the Unlocked version of a Moto G 2nd gen and really wanted to have unlimited everything and Straight Talk offered that. I wanted to be able to call my Girlfriend (now wife) who was living 1,300 miles away from me and not have to worry about minutes and text all my friends whenever I wanted. Straight Talk service from the suburban North Illinois was pretty great for being a AT&T subsidiary but the lack of mobile hotspot was pretty saddening for me but I took that most decent prepaid cell services just didn't offer that type of luxury. I started using Wal-Mart Family Mobile about a month ago and one huge thing I see that improved was the coverage support I haven't ran into a dead zone yet....and I live near VA Beach now the support for Mobile hotspot is great even after you passed your high speed data cap you can still use mobile hotspot which is just great too!
Coverage: Straight wins for HSPA+ Family Mobile wins for 4G LTE
Features: definitely goes to family mobile with the addition of mobile hotspot and data saver which helps compress data it just does way better for a lot less money.
Call quality: Straight Talk got really bad if you were on the phone passed 2 hours and would make this weird high pitched sound. Family Mobile doesn't seem to have that issue.
Data Speeds: Straight Talk is faster in most cases when it comes to data on HSPA+ Family Mobile is Decent however in most cases they score the same.
